SOLD Victorian era extra large 18K solid gold stamped medallion brooch/pendant with diamond and turquoise
FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE!
This is an antique and rare Victorian era 18K solid gold medallion brooch/pendant. It is large and heavy. It is very ornate and in very good vintage condition. No stones are missing, but there is small dent in the bottom of the medallion (see photos). It is located at the base, and does not impair its lovely appearance. Otherwise, the pendant shows no repair nor restoration.
Three decorated concentric circles espouse the shape of this gorgeous brooch. The first ring is composed of festoons, the second one frames the oval shape brooch with a twisted rope, and the last one shows finely etched floral and diagonal motif.
All three of these frames are there to emphasize the beauty of a raised insert composed of 16 natural turquoise beads and 16 European cut diamonds. The sparkling diamonds are set into a cross and, together with their supporting turquoise beads form the beautiful raised centerpiece for this astonishing pendant.
The turquoise beads have a very lively blue color, and the diamonds are extremely bright. This is an extraordinary piece of jewelry which borrows some of its aesthetics from the Etruscan revival movement which very much appealed to the late nineteenth century jewelry afficionados.
The reverse side shows a perfectly functioning push/pull (trombone) closure and a sturdy bail through which you can thread a nice black cord or a heavy 18-carat solid gold chain. Either way, this heavy and large piece will look smashing!

Period: early Victorian, Napoléon III
Style: brooch, medallion, pendant, religious motif
