This is a massive winged dragon brooch weighing 14grams of 18K solid gold. It dates back to 1900-1910, the Art Nouveau, period. This important movement took place during the 1895-1920 period. In France, it flourished in the 1920s, and quickly spread to Europe and the US. It eventually morphed into the Art Déco movement which derives its name from the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes held in Paris in 1925.
This gorgeous brooch is made out of 18K solid gold. The aggressive beast is seen ready to swallow its prey which is represented by a natural old European cut diamond which the griffin is holding in its beak. The diamond measures approximately 3.8mm and weighs 0.20cts. Clarity and color are ~H-VS2.
The fantastic brooch has a 3D quality about it. It is a beautiful and rare 18 carat solid gold griffin brooch, and it is in excellent estate condition. Any white or cloudy spots on the images are glare and/or photographic obstructions.
