This large brooch is an absolute treasure! You need not be an ornithologist nor a bird lover to appreciate its beautiful craftsmanship and its splendid turquoise coloring. Perched high on its stand, it is crafted with the most care for detail and an eye for stunning aesthetics. Its head and plumage exhibit a beautiful blend of green/blue enamel with black detail which contrast with the Florentine satiny gold finish of the bodice.
We estimated the creation of this gorgeous pin Circa 1950s during the Retro, Mid Century period. It has a nice solid feel with a heavy 11.6 grams of solid gold, and has a stately posture. It closes securely with a push/pull (trombone) type closure, and is in excellent vintage condition.

*Information on gold jewelry:

- 24K gold is pure gold. (it is not really used in jewellery because it is too soft and not practical for daily wear.)
-18K gold contains 18 parts gold and 6 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 75% gold. This level of fineness is used extensively in French and Italian jewelry and in most quality pieces)
-14K gold contains 14 parts gold and 10 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 58.3% gold. (It is used extensively in the US)
-12K gold contains 12 parts gold and 12 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 50% gold.
-10K gold contains 10 parts gold and 14 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 41.7% gold. 10K gold is the minimum standard that can be called "gold" in the United States.
Antique jewelry and rare items often contain the lower level of fineness, but their value is based on a myriad of other factors.
