This almost translucent sardonyx is in perfect condition. When cameo is backlit, you can see that there is no stress lines whatsoever! It has been hand carved by a master carver who has been trained for many years to carve specific aspects of the profile (nose, hair, etc.). It is of heirloom quality, and can be passed on to generations. It is a unique piece of fine jewelry, depicting a woman profile with an aquiline Roman nose and curly hair . The cameo is thick and framed with 4 rose-cut diamonds of great clarity and color. One more, larger diamond adorns the bail. The diamonds are prong set set in 18K solid gold. this is a serious piece of jewelry.
This cameo is in in excellent condition, showing NO stress lines.
Keep it in a dry place in a soft cloth, never leave it to soak. Keep it away from bright lights and heat. Be gentle with it, and it will be there for you to enjoy for years to come.
The pendant: Sardonyx shells are the most rare and valuable because they grow at a very slow rate, and therefore the are not found in abundance. They are prized for their color pigmentation and provide a striking contrast between pure white and deep chocolate layers.
The chain: It is a twisted rope chain which is of a recent acquisition and is almost new. It is a substantial rolling twist chain that can be used by itself and make a wonderful necklace. Although the Cameo and the chain are of different periods, we believe that the two pieces are a perfect match. The can be bought separately.
