This heavy pendant was created during the Etruscan Revival period (1860-1885). Fueled by "archaeological discoveries and written accounts of the exploits of ancient civilizations ," the period is ripe for revivals of ancient jewelry styles.
The style of the pendant, which resembles that of a lantern, features lots of applied ornamentation such as granulation and wire work decoration. We have attached a twisted cord chain in 18K solid gold which complement the pendant and turns it into a beautiful necklace. The twisted cord chain is not included in the price, and a black cord would work just as well for a more modest budgets.
The pendant is composed of four sides, each decorated with a splendid emerald-cut amethyst which glows as if it were a lantern. Four more triangular-shaped amethysts, located on top of the pendant, and a larger square cut amethyst, set at the base of the lantern, completes the lantern's appearance.
All the gems are bezel set and well mated. They feature a vivid violet coloring with excellent brilliance and no color zoning.
The ornamentation consists of starburst wire twists, and wire twist swags around the golden dome. vertical rope twist around the sides, and curve on the top dome. Twisted chain and golden balls frame each individual amethyst in an incredible feat of amazing craftsmanship.
The pendant is in excellent vintage condition. Any white or cloudy spots on the item is glare and/or photographic obstructions.
